Solar Design // Integrating solar cells naturally into daily life

Elevator Pitch

In one hour the sun provides enough energy to supply the whole world with electricity for an entire year!

The technologies to make this happen already exist, but consumers aren't buying them. They are often too expensive and/or poorly designed to fit with their needs.

Our philosophy is founded upon the belief that in order to change the way people interact with their environment you have to create solutions that are desirable. By combing solar technology with design aesthetics we create renewable energy products that integrate naturally into our homes and offices. This is how we can make people want to actually LIVE WITH solar energy - thereby increase demand.

The company is named after the French chemist Joseph Bienamé Caventou who first isolated chlorophyll; the green pigment in plants that enables the process of photosynthesis.

Product

The Current Table functions as a source of energy to charge your devices. It has its entire top surface made of dye-sensitised solar cells. These cells, that have been developed in Switzerland by Nobel Prize nominee Michael Grätzel, work on the property of colour to create an electrical current. They are different to traditional PV cells in that they operate efficiently under diffuse light. This makes Current Table the first piece of furniture capable of harvesting energy indoors.

Why we are ecofriendly

1. We work with organic dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSC Technology), a technology based on the process of photosynthesis.

2. With our approach to solar design we aim to show people the potential of living with objects that produce and share their own energy.

3. Dye-sensitised solar cells work efficiently indoors. Our designs encourage people to harvest energy from their homes & offices - and thus become truly energy self-sufficient.

Latest News

We recently participated in London's tech accelerator program, Cognicity L39.

During London Design Festival (17th Sept - 27 Sept) C A V E N T O U is replacing all the windows of a building in Soho with their Current Windows. The installation is intended to inspire visitors to explore choices that can help forge a more ethical and sustainable way of living. The Current Window is a modern version of stained glass that generates solar power as light hits the pigment of the dye-sensitised solar cells. People will be able to charge their mobile phones from the window ledges.

During the Festival the Current Table will be on display in Somerset House.

If you are in London please come and visit.

C A V E N T O U and our Current Table were featured in the Evening Standard, Dezeen, BBC News, TedX, CNN, Wired, Icon & the Financial Times.
