Elevator Pitch

Most African countries rely on conventional power systems with high unit costs of electricity such as grid-connected power plants as well as privately-owned off-grid diesel generators. Growing energy expenses and unreliable power supply are the main threats facing commercial and industrial enterprises (C&Is) in developing countries. Ghana is an example where electricity prices sharply increased, by 166% over the past three years, reaching 0.38 €/kWh.

The utilization of renewable energy resources has long been an alternative to address these problems, however, investment and deployment have been slow with very low market penetration. In developing countries only few rooftop solar projects are realized due to a lack of financial means. This comes as a result of the financing instruments that aim at projects of at least 5 million € and the local banks that only provide short maturity loans with high-interest rates.

At the same time, private investors in Germany are lacking attractive investment opportunities. Savings accounts only provide slightly more than 0% interest and stock markets are highly volatile. Furthermore, 70% of Germans are conscious about green and social investments.

ecoligo solves the two problems by providing low-cost solar power to C&Is in developing countries and financing the power plants through its crowdinvesting platform, where it offers to the crowd sustainable investment opportunities with a climate impact. ecoligo combines the solar-as-a- service approach with crowdinvesting, serving as the owner and operator and assuming responsibility for financing and managing the solar systems.

Product

ecoligo serves a two-sided market, the crowdinvestors and energy off-takers.

For the crowdinvestors, ecoligo provides attractive investment opportunities with up to 8% return investment that have positive impact on the environment and local economy.

For the energy off-taker, ecoligo's solar-as-a-service solution provides green electricity and reduces costs for C&Is by up to 40%. Furthermore the energy price becomes predictable for the client in contrast to utility prices which vary significantly.

Why we are ecofriendly

In developing countries electricity is primarily generated from fossil fuels resulting in a high grid emission factor. Furthermore, C&Is in these countries often tend to also use diesel generators during intermittently power outages as a result of unstable grid conditions.

By providing clean power to C&Is in these countries, ecoligo reduces the amount of CO2 emitted by them and contributes towards enhancing grid stability through decentralized, renewable power generation.

Enviromental Impact

Every kWh of solar energy sold in a developing country saves about 1 kg CO2 with respect to the normal electricty mix, as the CO2 emissions are on average double as high in non-OECD countries compared to OECD countries.

Economic Impact

Reducing the energy cost of off-takers in developing countries up to 40% and supporting local economies.

Providing crowdinvestors in Germany attractive return of up to 8% on their investment.

Allowing institutional investors to invest in validated projects, securing proven revenue streams.

Social Impact

Freeing up capital of businesses in developing countries to generate new jobs.

Training and education of local partners to increase knowledge and professionalism in solar energy systems.
